Freshmen acquire knowledge on lifestyles in general, with a focus not limited to clothing. Sophomores and juniors study the basic science and specialist disciplines related to the clothing environment. First they study the characteristics of polymers and fiber assemblies as clothing environment materials, as well as the high-functionalization of fabric. Next they move on to knowledge about apparel design and production, as well as frontier technologies such as apparel CAD. Further, they deepen their knowledge and understanding of rational clothing management and reuse. Juniors are assigned to a research office in their second term, developing high-level specialist techniques and presentation abilities. During the course of this curriculum, students are called on to acquire not only interest in the clothing environment but basic Japanese, English and math skills, as well as the desire to study the physics and chemistry of the clothing environment.
Graduates of this course are expected to play an active part in various fields, serving as technical experts and project planning staff in the fiber and apparel industry, researchers in the field of chemical detergents and product development, and specialists in consumer affairs centers.
